Hello, I upgraded my OS to Catalina recently, and as a result my Microsoft Office 2011 no longer works and I am forced to upgrade or join the 365 membership. As an owner of the older software, I would. The app won’t work in Catalina, even though it’s 64-bit. Apple recommends to switch to Photos or Adobe Lightroom. If you need a pro-level editor for a moderate price, you might want to try CameraBag Pro. Microsoft apps not working in Catalina. macOS Catalina (10.15) is supported by Academic Technology / Technology Support Services.
If you have OS X 10.12 (Sierra) or an older version, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to at least macOS 10.13 (High Sierra). Apple is no longer supporting OS X 10.12 (Sierra).
You will need one of the following models in order to run macOS Catalina:
- Macbook (2015 or newer)
- MacBook Air (2012 or newer)
- MacBook Pro (2012 or newer)
- Mac mini (2012 or newer)
- iMac (2012 or newer)
- iMac Pro (2017 or newer)
Recommended minimum hardware:
- 20 GB of free space
- 4 GB minimum memory

macOS Catalina (due in late September) will be dropping support for 32bit apps. macOS Mojave has been warning us about this every time we launch one of these apps and action on your part will be needed soon. One of the most popular 32bit apps we see is Microsoft Office 2011, which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint. If you have been limping along with Office 2008, the same warning applies.
